Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Gables part of a chain of homes?

The Gables is an independent care home in South Gloucestershire/Bristol and not part of any chain. It is family-owned by a husband and wife team, Jacky and Paul Edwards.

Is the food freshly prepared on the premises?

Our dedicated cooks prepare fresh food on a daily basis and there is a varied menu. They bake their own cakes, quiches, pies and cater for requests, especially when asked nicely. Nothing is too much trouble for them.

Where are you situated?

The Gables is situated in a quiet, residential area of Hanham in South Gloucestershire/Bristol. We are a short walk from bus stops, a small row of shops, post office and parks and then a 5-minute drive from the main high street in Hanham and a 15-minute drive from Bristol City Centre. We are 5 miles from Saltford, 9 miles from Bath and 20 miles from Chippenham.

Is the garden accessible and used by the residents?

Yes. The garden and patio areas are used extensively by our residents in the Summer months.

What type of activities are on offer at the Gables?

We have a full activity programme which provides activities for our residents throughout the week. We offer weekly Bingo sessions, quizzes, games and sing-a-longs as well as exercise classes and yoga. We organise outings to local pubs and tea-rooms, as well as bringing the party to us with karaoke evenings, dance classes and more.

How do I know that my mother or father will be safe from any form of abuse whilst in your care?

All of our staff are fully trained in relation to safeguarding of vulnerable adults. This training is refreshed on an annual basis. At the Gables there is a culture of openness and staff are aware that they are fully protected by the whistleblowing policy and would be confident about reporting any concerns. We feel it is an honour to care for our elders and we care for them as if they were our own.

Does a GP, or any other healthcare professionals, make visits to the home?

The home has a good relationship with all the local GP surgeries and District Nurses who we can call on whenever required. The Gables is run by a registered nurse and as a retired nurse in a supervisory position.

Does the home have a visiting chiropodist, hairdresser and optician?

Yes. The optician visits on an annual basis and our chiropodist visits every six weeks and the hairdresser visits weekly.
