Our cooks prepare fresh home-cooked food, in our newly fitted kitchen, from fresh locally sourced produce. The cooks are always coming up with new ideas and will try out new things and love to provide food that the residents enjoy eating.
Good food is an important part of living at the Gables. Nutrition in the elderly can make a lot of difference to health and wellbeing, we understand this and take great care to ensure our residents are getting what they need. Our staff get to know the residents, what food they like, or even add their favourite meal to the menu for a change. The care team monitors food and drink intake and weigh the residents frequently to ensure weight loss particularly is noted and can be acted upon early and we can call on professional help if necessary.
Special diets are catered for, diabetic, gluten free, vegetarian, likes and dislikes, just let us know.
Between 7.30am and 8am Tea and Coffee are served in the Residents bedrooms. From 8am to 8.30am breakfast is served in the bedroom or Dining room as preferred. There is a wide choice of cereal, porridge, toast, eggs etc. At 10.30am morning coffee is served. At 12.30 Lunch, which is the main meal of the day, is served in the Dining Room. The menu varies everyday and is well balanced nutritionally but does contain lots of treats to encourage a good appetite. There are always three choices available at lunchtimes. At 3pm tea and homemade cake are served and at 5pm a light supper is served we have hot and cold dishes available which vary every day. Tea, coffee, other hot and cold drinks are available when the Residents want them. At 7.30pm evening drinks including ovaltine, hot chocolate etc., are offered.
Special occasions are also important to us – Christmas, Birthdays, Easter, etc., when we offer traditional food to celebrate the occasion often inviting family and friends to join in.
